2020 - 2021
As a result of the worldwide pandemic, the Appian Youth Board Game Club was unable to lead in-person board gaming activities in schools during the 2020 - 2021 school year. Instead, we organized an online board-gaming league. A total of 12 schools participated in the league, which schedules live online board game play several times a week. Players learned new games and competed with fellow league members. Each player's performance was tracked for every game played, and the rankings of the top league players were posted online and updated each week. The league featured 14 games throughout the school year. Participants competed for prizes and the top players were recognized for their performance. Players played a total of 1264 games during the 2020-2021 season.

2021 - 2022
Appian was able to support in-person after school boardgaming once again during the 2021 - 2022 school year. We were very happy to return to the schools and have the opportunity to interact with students in a face-to-face environment. Ongoing concerns about COVID made it difficult to organize large-scale over-the-board tournaments, but we still had great participation at local schools as we began to build back to pre-pandemic levels of engagement in our communities. Altogether Appian supported board game clubs at 7 public schools, helping to provide opportunities for students to develop important critical-thinking and social skills through fun and challenging after school boardgaming activities.
